Amazing what a kit lens can produce - 18-55 AL II - K20D - no flash - ISO 100 - matrix metering - lens hood on for JR !!

Nice pictures and you are right about the kit lens, but why did you put a hood on JR?

No. 1 certainly shows off the close focus ability of the lens, although the background is a bit bright/harsh. The others could have been improved compositionally though, in my opinion... the main subject of the shot is not arranged in the most pleasing place it could have been. The rule of thirds is a good start off point for thinking about composition

Sadly my friend I don`t always think about composition - I take your point but the shot was there to take and I took it - it pleased my eye and it seemed to be relevant - the main subject of the shot was the whole picture not just the chain/handrail in isolation - colour and texture were my motivation I must admit.
Appreciate the comments though.................

A fine set, Tony and I'd love to have taken them. I suppose you won't believe I was on a beach near Lyme Regis yesterday photographing rusty stuff and pebbles... Strange coincidence.

I like the isolated lumps and flakes in the first two. The composition in the first shot is especially nice. My favourites are the last two with the contrast between pebbles and rust.

A most pleasing set.
Best wishes,

Andrew

I'm sure this is a BAD thing, Tony!

If I had the nerve to show this to Mrs C. then the lap top would be wrested from my grasp and you'd receive a PM from her telling you the whole truth!

Man, that's some rust Tony! I think No 1 works best for me, as the shot isolates the subject more effectively.

If you had the opportunity, some post would improve it further IMO, and provide even better focus on the subject by darkening the background.

A successful holiday for you?
