Images from around Aberthaw

Here's a few taken from the exterior path that surrounds a power station that recently was switched off permanently due to its polluting emissions. These are the first images taken as part of my opening project for year 3 in university that officially gets under way in September but I'm making a start now as I'm looking to move from being an upper 2-1 where I am now to a first class pass so the wrench time starts now! Had my kids with me and also limited on time as I had to get my daughter from her boyfriends so it was a short walk along the one path but I'll be back out later this week to shoot more.

All with the Pentax K1 and either DFA 24-70mm or the DA* 60-250mm

Some of your Mono processing really brings out the subject matter well

Agree with LennyBloke on this. I've said before how good I thought your B&W work is. I have no doubt it'll be a First, Gareth.
Be well, stay safe.

Before I got to the comments I was thinking "Gareth has nailed the BW conversions..." I'm glad I'm not the only one to think so given my monochrome addiction.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

Thanks all, again I blame uni! They need to stop showing me images and photographers that influence me

I would say that's it, I'm shooting everything in mono but I have a feeling my next set may be a riot of colour .....

Enjoyed seeing your progression as a photographer and a development of your own style. My personal favourites are 5, 7 and 8 but they all hold together as a set. I admire your drive to complete a 3 year project, well done.

Thanks Peter
One of my lecturers says how I like a dramatic image! I also think those last 3 are the pic of the bunch and could be argued dramatic so we must be on to something

That place really lends itself to a 'prison camp' security perspective and I commented to myself, when the scene came up, "Ah, those chimneys have got potential." And the very next image ...? The monochrome treatment is superb. You have got me seriously considering a similar course simply due to what it has done for your work.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Someone locally said that the place looks like a concentration camp so along the same lines.

Thanks, yeah, do it! The 'bore' if there is one is the written work and academic writing but it opens your eyes to new ways of shooting and allows you naturally to develop your style further, I think the images I'm shooting now to 2 years ago are light and shades apart so it's definitely worth considering. Not sure if England is the same but over here the Welsh Government give me a grant that doesn't need paying back of nearly £12k so it helps that financial strain of dropping to just a day a weeks work in the school
