Image quality on my new (to me) K-1

Having been a very long time Pentax fan I recently pushed the boat out and purchased a used K-1 Mk1 body. I currently own a K5, a K20, an ist d, and a gathering of assorted film cameras from S1a up.

I still use the K5 and occasionally the K20 but as I am starting to get used to the K-1 I'm noticing something about the image quality. The K5 is a great camera, providing great quality images, the K20 pretty good also, but there seems to be some as yet undefinable quality in the K-1 images that makes it so much better, to my eyes at least. It can't be the lenses I'm using, as they are mostly older full frame lenses that I use on the older cameras. Pentax FA 28-200 being current favourite, and 50mm f1.4 when I'm feeling more traditional. Definitely worth the £Gulp! upgrade.

All I need to do now is to learn how to compose decent images. Like the tee shirt says, I take photographs because I enjoy it, not because I'm any good at it.

K-1 has pixie dust for sure, although I would suggest saving up for D-FA glass to make the best use of it. You might not be able to afford the 15-30, 24-70 or 70-200 lenses but there are other options like the 28-105 and you will notice the difference.

Went the same route myself. Some years ago now. From a K5ii to the K1, I have purchased the DFA lenses and the results match anything on the market, You just fall in love with this camera. Once you get used to the weight. The K5 becomes for emergency work only.. Or wildlife, When long reach is the priority,,

Nor me - but I recently bought a second one ( SWMBO hasn't noticed yet ). But don't go mad buying the expensive lenses - there are dozens of cheap vintage ones out there that are fantastic provided you are comfortable with manual focus. I get wonderful results from 1920s glass !
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Em, I have two... Btw, when I pop my clogs I just hope that Mrs Urbanmeister doesn't sell them for the price I said I paid. (I know, I know, I'm not going to heaven.)
Be well, stay safe.

Welcome to full-frame

I have found that using old lenses doesn't detract from the magic offered by the great sensors available today. If you can focus them properly then just let the camera do it's part.

My old glass sits on my P50 (and even that is an AF lens F50/1.7)...

Actually used the D-FA and D-FA* glass on the P50 too - all I can say is wow! So where K-1 goes, so does the P50 (and maybe the Z-1p)
