I've just bought a K-5IIs

hehe - after the long drawn out "discussions" regarding the (really tiny IMO )differences between AA fitler or no AA filter I never thought I would.

However I always did say I could do with better low light AF that the K-5 offers, and with that in mind I've been looking out for a reasonably priced K-5II for a few weeks now. So when a K-5IIs came up for 450 with a shutter count of around a 100 I couldn't resist despite the possible mockery on here. It came with V1.00 so just successfully installed V1.07

Right, off to store my user settings and AF calibrate my lenses for it. Should be interesting to compare the AF calibration with my current K-5's

I'd be interested to know how you get on in comparison to your K5, Smeggy. Maybe you'll change your mind!

Glad to hear that Gary, how are you getting on with the 600 compared to your K5ll? Am interested in some honest feedback and as you have shot Pentax and now Nikon, I think your opinions would be balanced.

I hope so - I haven't seen any difference in the preview at max zoom between the IIs and one of my K-5's but I'll do some proper tripod RAW testing before too long.

Cheers - Interesting results on the AF calibration. Here's settings for each lens I've done so far as K-5, K-5, K-5IIs

Sigma 30/1.4 +5, 0, +1
Pentax FA50/1.4 -10, -7, 0
Sigma 17-70/2.8-4.5 0, 0, +3
Pentax DA-14/2.8 +2, +2, +5
DA* 50-135/2.8 -3, -3, 0
Sigma 135-400 +5, +9, +1
DA10-17/3.5 0, 0, 0

All done in good day light. Focussing doesn't seem any faster, 50-135 is still glacial but it does seem more consistent. For example with the K-5 you could take 10 pics of the same subject with the K-5 and around 5 of them would be on and the rest slightly off. Only a real problem at wide apertures though.

Haven't evaluated if there's any differences at low light/tungsten light yet. My Sigma 30/1.4 front focusses somewhat in dim light with both my original K-5s even after the V1.03 firmware fix, so should be interesting on the K-5IIs.

I genuinely don't know what to say

I won't be making mockery, that's not my style. I think you will find a significant difference with the AF Smeggy, not with AF speed but definitely with accuracy and more so in poor light.

I sincerely hope you get on well with the new camera and I'm sure it will give you good service. I think you will also find after extended use that it is sharper than the K-5, albeit this is not the be all and end all.

For the sake of decency I'll delete all the previous threads where you said...

Enjoy!

Hope so as that's the only reason I bought it.

Cheers.

I'll be the first to admit it if I do.
