I miss my K10D so much!

Punchy images straight out of the camera and ergonomics that haven't been beaten IMO.
I think I might buy another for macro and studio; any situation where I can be sure of good light, it just works....
Life's too short for all this PP.
What do you think? Rose-tinted memories?

The K10D is a very fine camera. The K20D is virtually identical, so that might be an alternative as well. We still use one and my K10D is still used very successfully by my Sister-in-Law.

I was very happy with my K10d and have in fact just managed to get mine back from my Daughter who wasnt really bothering with it. Just need some decent weather now to make use of them. It means that I now have a fair spread: -

K10 with the Sigma 150-500, (i have found that this produces the best results on the K10
K7 - use this with the Macro lens and the other bits and bob's
K5 - use this with the Siggy 18-250 on as an excellent multi purpose covers almost everything solution

Paul
K5's (2)both gripped, K10d gripped, Pentax 28-90 f3.5, Sigma 18-250mm, Sigma 150-500mm. Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro, Sigma 10-20 f.4-5.6.EX DC, Hoya 135 f2.8, Take on 28mm f2.8 Pentax AF360 flash, 2 fill in slaves. 30 metre remote release, Rt angle viewfinder, Giotto NOT 3261B Tripod with Manfrotto 808Rd4 ball head, Manfroto 4861RC2 monopoly, shoulder stock, various filters etc, Panasonic SET HBS HD Video cam, Tamrac Explorer 8x backpack and a sore back.....

I rather suspect that everyone's latest toy will be their favourite camera. I still use my *istDS, especially with the 40mm DA Ltd, quite often. Its discrete and could pass as a bridge camera. I still think the K20d is one of the best cameras I have ever used. I have not much need for high ISO performance or fast auto focus.

I was impressed by the sharpness of images from the K20D, it was used in this article:

I'm a big fan of my K10d - although mine is converted for IR. It handles very much like my GX20 and as a result is a pleasure to use.
You will only prise my 43Ltd from my cold, dead hands...

I miss my K10D as well, I much preferred my macro shots taken with it when compared to newer models.

I'm pretty sure the sensor in the K10D was what made it such a good camera at low ISO.

Yup, wasn't the K10d the last of the CCD sensor Pentax DSLRs (if you don't count the 645D as a dslr). It accounts for the characteristics at low iso. All the sensors since have been CMOS.

Yes, the K10D used a CCD.

I hadn't got the heart to get rid of my K10D when I aquired a K5. I tend to use them 50-50 as they are so similar in use (odd things throw me occasionally, being in different places).

Basically its too good to let go, so trying to convince my wife that she would prefer it to a compact camera.

The good news is K10Ds will get cheaper and cheaper and available to pick up as a 2nd or 3rd body for that CCD flavour

I have to admit I loved the character of pics taken with with my K10D

We had ours repaired at one point, at reasonable cost by JPS, and it was well worth having it done. I could live with using the K10D.

It does have a different character of image than the later cameras, although I wouldn't describe it as better or worse, just different.

In terms of image quality, the K-5 would seem to me to be the best yet, which is why we both have them for regular use.
Best regards, John

The K10D is an excellent camera. I still have mine. Although I have the K-5 (and K20D and *istDS) I do find that the K10D excellent in certain circumstances, mainly landscapes. I must start using it more for this purpose, as the colour rendition, especially out of the camera, beats the K20D and in some ways the K-5 hands down. In fact, I will charge the battery and give it a good run with my new Limiteds this weekend (weather permitting)

OK, I don't have and have never used a K10d, but I do have the cut down version, my K200d.

Along with the early 6meg cameras the K10d/K20d had Sony sensors, as has the K5.

It's how Pentax use these sensors that makes the difference, surpassing Nikon and Sony themselves.

My other body, a K110d (with Sony Sensor!) has my DA40 on and makes a great pocket camera. Not bad for a DSLR!
Cheers, HG

K110+DA40, K200+DA35, K3 and a bag of lenses, bodies and other bits.

Mustn't forget the Zenits, or folders, or...

PPG entries.

I've recently had to return my K-7 for repair so my beloved K-10 has once again become my main camera. At 1st I was flinching at the shutter slap, but after a week back with her, I'm in love again )
One day you'll find, 10yrs have got behind you.
