Gotta be careful though. I once drove off in our estate car with the tailgate up and a very worried dog in the back staring out into the big, wide world....

Beware also for gusts of wind. A couple of years ago we were parked at the top of Blue Bank (Whitby) eating fish and chips and admiring the view. Missus went to fetch something from the boot. A gust of wind whipped the tailgate up, broke both struts, and then it dropped on her head. I swear she has never been the same since....

If that happened with me van it would probably throw them clean over the top to the front... Beware also for gusts of wind.
