I cannot remember registering any product for years. Just keep hold of your receipt, and if any problems go through the retailer.

I think the days of companies trying to get you to register the purchase are long gone. It was mainly so they could then sell marketing information about you to third party mailing list companies. They used to gather salary bands, gender, age etc out of it.
Enjoy your new lens. Since I got mine I can't stop going on safari in Africa. It's turned out to be expensive!

Here in Spain registering Panasonic products adds an extra year of guarantee (three in total). I've registered my Sigma lenses too and I think that does something similar.
I've no idea about Pentax these days but I think they still give a longer guarantee if you buy from an approved "Pro" centre.

I lived in Spain for a few years. Our market had Panascanic. Somehow I don't think they came with any guarantee!

Under UK consumer law, the retailer not the manufacturer is liable for repairs etc. due to defects. Registering a purchase with the manufacturer is therefore no longer necessary. As others have said, keep receipts and go back to the retailer if the lens develops a fault. This may be different in other countries.
