all worked up and happy with my new camera,
K200D with kit lense v2 18-55 f5.6........
so... the f number needs to be smaller to get the bokeh i want?

as you can se from this test-shot i had to photoshop 2 shots to get the "right" dof.

my Question for you: what lense do you recomend to achieve similar bokeh as the bottom pic?

Welcome to the forum.

To achieve your goal you need a 'faster' lens. That is, a lens which has a wider maximum aperture (smaller f number) than your kit lens.

I would have no hesitation in recommending the SMC Pentax-FA 50mm 1:1.4 lens. You will not be disappointed with it and you should be able to achieve something similar to your last pic, in camera, but with a much sharper foreground subject.

You're welcome. I should have added that the bokeh rendered by the lens I suggested is about the best you'll find for the money. The out of focus (OOF) background is achieved due to the much shallower depth of field produced by the FA 50mm 1.4

SMC Pentax-FA is often shortened to SMCP FA or SMC P-FA or SMCP-FA and yes, that's the lens I suggested. If it's new, it should be the equivalent of around 145.00. used, they fetch almost as much. If it's much more than that, contact Chris at www.srsmicrosystems.co.uk, he might do a deal on postage for you.

We love new members, and we don't ask you to say you're sorry for asking questions here.

A lot of this stuff is confusing at first.

Before you know it, you'll be an expert.

Cheers
