Hatton Flight (2)

I like the composition. Had hoped to visit these last Monday but u it was so wet we had to abandon the idea, very nearly didn't get back to our hotel as the roads in the area were so flooded.
Yes, last Monday the weather was awful - this was today. A clear blue sky, a beautiful November morning.
Hatton flight is well worth a visit, although at the moment they are doing repairs to one of the locks, so part of the canal is drained.
Walking along a canal is a wonderful thing, you never know what you might see around the next bend and they can offer up a different perspective on our landscape. I am currently documenting the Calder & Hebble Navigation as well as the Huddersfield Broad and Narrow canals and they can be so rewarding for a photographer.

Me and the missus have often thought about a holiday on a boat, on a canal...but I think I would steer clear of this place...sod that amount of locks, we'd be there all day, no?

Apparently it takes about 4/5 hours of reasonable effort to clear all 21 locks in the flight! Too much for me.
However, what's wrong with you lot - you should try the Caen Hill flight at Devizes - there are around 35 locks in all there !
I did it with my son 10 years ago on a windy day and it took us 5 hours to complete, even with 2 'runners' going ahead and preparing the next lock ready for us.
THAT's what you call a Flight !
Best regards
Peter
A great shot and, as has been said, the church sits nicely to give the perspective.

According to Wikipedia there are 29 locks at Caen.
You know what's going to happen next, someone is going to say they've done the biggest flight in the U.K. at Tardebigge with 30 locks !

Malcolm

Yes that's right, Malcolm.
Whilst the main flight is 29 locks there are more between Devizes Marina and the start of the main descent and a few more afterwards before you get going freely.
So it depends how you look at it (and whether you are an angler describing 'the one that got away' !)
Best regards
Peter

Kineton,
Warwickshire.
This is part of a flight of 21 locks, just outside Warwick.
In the background you can see the tower of St. Mary Church - it dominates the Warwick skyline.
