Hi All,

Anyone own the Ricoh GXR system? I just bought mine today at the cost of SGD$529.00. Waited until the prices went down like crazy before I decided to purchase one as the GR is too costly for me.

I have one - good alternative to the GRD. Slower and not as well integrated, but the user interface and image quality are excellent. If you can find the 50/2.5 macro, this is an exceptional additional to the GXR.

Great price by the way.

I have not used it in black & white. Looks good - I will have to try it.

The idea of the system is unusual, my reservation being that different sensors have different characteristics, so changing lenses means changing the way images look. Also, it's not possible to upgrade the sensor (by buying a new body) without having to upgrade the lens at the same time.

To be absolutely honest, I'm not seeing much image quality here and a good deal of noise as well. The date will be in the EXIF data, so I wouldn't choose to overprint the image itself. It tends to distract from the subject matter.
Best regards, John

Thanks for the input John. Must learn how to switch off the date info in the menu. My first time trying to shoot from a moving bus and using B&W with the camera. Will try to PP the image first next time before posting as these were out of camera jpgs.

From what I've read about it, this camera system's selling point is optimisation of the lens & sensor combinations by them being specially designed and sealed together as a unit. Thats the theory anyway, as I understand it.

Apart from any specific IQ benefits from this matching, an obvious practical advantage is the added sensor dust protection over an interchangable lens system.

But, I wonder, do both of these benefits add up to anything very significant?

I am still learning about the camera's features and find that it's good for landscape at the most.
