I thought the green rings on the lens barrel was being replaced with red ones. On the 2 lenses just released they are back to green.
I wondered if Ricoh/Pentax have changed there mind or is there some new methodology .
Any ideas

It depends on who they get to do the painting and what paint he has in
the gun at the time...

It used to be cheaper on a Saturday because they mixed together all the paint left over from jobs done in the week!

f you are going to be a pedant and call people on use of language when what they have written is commonly accepted usage, then at least be correct.

Indeed, but pedantry apart, green seems to indicate SMC and red HD, so far at least. I suppose these are images of prototypes, so we'll see what the colour coding means when we have the first production lenses.

But I understood that HD was really a replacement for SMC, ie incorporating it? Or are they still separate distinct coating aspects ... Not sure, do we have lenses designated 'SMC hd' ? Oh well, in any case, I assume there's some methodology in the madness ....

I much prefer the green - I hate that they started copying Canon with the red rings.

On reflection, given Pentax's penchant for playing with colours, it's quite amazing we don't have rainbow ones by now.
That was probably a bad thing to say, I hope nobody from Pentax marketing division is actually reading this or you can blame me later.

According to Japanese review of HD150-450, Pentax is reverting to green ring to signify "growth and development, nature and fresh". From now on Green for standard, Gold for * lines.
