FS: SMC Pentax K 200mm f2.5

SMC Pentax K 200mm f2.5 - Average Condition: The highly regarded fastest 200mm ever produced by Pentax - this one is priced low due to an issue that doesn't appear to be an issue :shock::roll::? : Optically it is Good, snappy aperture, some dust & cleaning marks. Cosmetically it is average - no dings or dents just usual wear - focusing is positive and firm. The 'issue' is around the rear elements - there appears to be a shiny ring around the edge, I cannot be sure what it is, and when I bought it I assumed this would impact on contrast or flare or vignetting or edge softness - but to my eyes it does not show up anything in the images. Whether this is because it is around the very edge and so does not form part of the image handling area of the optics I don't know - but it was a pleasant surprise to me! This image shows the 'ring' a little.. Here's a few 'snaps' from this morning - all at f2.5, no cropping or sharpening... A truly super bargain buy for some one of a very respected and capable lens judging by Lenny's excellent supporting photographs.

If I may comment on the issue of the light ring around the rear element (a non issue really) the light ring resembles an internal reflection and if it is, I have a possible theory for its cause. The lens looks like it has been a favourite workhorse for someone and it's just possible that in its past, the rear element for whatever reason may have been removed, possibly to clean it say, leading to the edge blacking of the rear lens being accidently removed either in part or in whole during the process. Lens edge blacking is done as a precaution specifically to prevent internal reflections. My theory should be relatively easy to prove or disprove by removing the rear element and inspecting it and if I'm correct, just as easy to remedy by re-blacking/painting the edge of the lens again.

It's just a theory mind and probably a loose one at that, that said it's clear that whatever the cause it has no effect upon its use as perfectly illustrated by Lenny. So if the new owner isn't an inveterate tinkerer and insomniac like myself who can't resist a conundrum then simply use it as is and enjoy it to its full potential.

What you need are lenses, more lenses, bigger lenses, better lenses, faster lenses, vintage lenses and when you have these, your pictures will be perfect!
