First Steps for Mum (or Dad?)...

First steps away from the nest today (unless I missed it yesterday). The nest is behind the chimney of next door but one. Mum (or Dad?) is totally paranoid about other birds in the vicinity. A jackdaw on the neighbouring roof was chased off, a magpie in a tree next door was threatened and a passing gull got the shock of its life. Lots of noise at other times, too, of course.

Whatever you think about herring gulls, their UK conservation status is 'Red' so another young 'un ought to be a welcome sight. So enjoy saying "Ah, cute!" with a clear conscience!

Well captured, you may not be saying " Ah Cute " when he's after your chips in a few months time

Thanks. I'm wondering whether it can be trained to leave us sensible locals alone and just go for the chips, ice creams and sandwiches of the thoughtless, stupid and downright dangerous non-locals flocking to Dorset beaches at the moment...

That would be good but all his mates would need to flock together

Some birds don't take kindly to predation. A pair of carrion crows recently downed a magpie that had been caught near their nest. They pecked it to death in the middle of the road amid a tremendous racket of caws and screeches.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass
