Being a plasticky camera doesn't seem to stop it taking good photos - I really like these .

The *istD was the original in the series, and IIRC around £1500 on release. The *istDS was much more affordable, maybe around £850? It was the first Pentax DSLR we could afford.

The bodies are different. I have both in front of me. The D is smaller and has more controls and a smaller screen. It is a lot nicer to hold and to use. It also has a 'green button' which is missing from the DS (it isn't really but you need to know to use the 'ae'l' button instead). Both nevertheless take great pictures. You might not think to attach an F* 300mm to either but it works a treat!

Thought I'd follow up on the thread here.
I got the *istD S last week and these are some of the first photos I'm satisfied with.
I should have paid more attention and got the original D version. The S is quite plasticky compared to the 10D.
