Cars contain electronics and computers So they should only last 5 years

The only car I've had that I had to scrap after 4.5 years was a Lancia Beta Spyder

Nothing wrong with the old Pentax film cameras such as the Z-1p and MZ-S

I'd your camera had to drive on the average British road every day, I doubt even magnesium alloy and weather resistant seals could save it!

I forgot to mention that Lancia refusing to compensate owners for having to scrap rusty cars finished up killing off the company in the UK and most of Europe. They tried to make a comeback years later but British car owners have very good memories and rightly stayed clear.

But they didn't bring out a Full Frame sports car subsequently .... That would have made up for it! .... Only for those who could afford it through.

Cars tend to have a mileage limit as well as a time limit on warranty, but that's another issue altogether.

I think when Louise has actually phoned SRS to voice her concerns we should start to see how this will unfold for her. Hopefully some compromise will be reached with Pentax, depending of course on what the actual fault is.
Best regards, John

It was the shutter (I must have worn it out, har har)

No point in having a rugged weather sealed camera rated at 100,000 actuation etc if it's going to seriously fail within 2 1/2 years.

Exactly, I thought it would last longer, now I'm stuck with a rather 'expensive' repair bill. Which I see may happen to a lot of other people with the K50 which appears to develope the same fault.

Quote:
When Photography Blog reviewed the K30 back in 2012 they stated that the shutter was designed for 100k releases.

They failed to mention that it develops a fault after two years down the line.

It's a shame because I'm now being hindred in a photography course that I wanted to do which is a bit sad for me

Somewhere I saw a breakdown of when shutters failed (so nothing to do with the aperture motor then?) which was quite interesting, but where it was I can't recall.

Some last a shorter time than others, so I think the 100,000 is probably an average life expectancy, but I don't think it's a minimum figure. I know that doesn't help, but there are lots of second hand Pentax cameras around that would probably cost less than the K30 repair. I think you could pick something up for £100-£150 that would serve very well. Why not check out the Classified Ads on the forum?
Best regards, John
