DA 21 Limited lens cap - repairing damaged felt

I recently bought a second hand DA 21 Limited. The felt on the curved surfaces of the lens cap is damaged: pushed or 'rucked up' towards the flat front felt surface.

Now the lens cap doesn't fully push on, and doesn't grip properly. I find it has fallen off every time I get the camera out of my bag. Having a heavy metal lens cap moving around is likely to scratch the black surfaces on the front of my lens. Not really appealing.

My two options are:
1 repair the felt (but what sort to buy, what adhesive to use, and where to find tips on the procedure?)
2 buy a new cap (around £20 online) and sell the original on ebay for whatever someone is willing to pay

Any thoughts? Anyone had similar experience?

These are beautiful lenscaps and this one must have had some very rough treatment.

Personally I'd buy a new one and let whatever I got from eBay ease the loss a little.

If you're very lucky it's always possible that you'll get more than the new price for your damaged cap, such is the nature of the marketplace.

Given the lens cap is metal I might be inclined to try a few drops of lighter fuel and see if that loosens the remaining adhesive. Gently peel the felt away, clean any residue, leave everything to dry and then re-stick the felt with a tiny amount of contact adhesive.

Given the price of a new cap it has to be worth a try. The worst that could happen is the felt being damaged by the lighter fuel, the cap should be absolutely fine.
