I've just been lucky enough to get a reasonable example of one ot these for £3. (No one else bid - for a change) 
It arrived yesterday & I didn't get in till late so my experience with it is very limited, but my initial tests suggest it's better than I expected. In macro mode it gives 1:1 (plus crop factor) with a 50mm lens set on infinity. (Changing the focus on the lens gives still more magnification)
If the optical quality lives up to promice I might stop looking for that elusive helicoid!
Indications are, if you're interested in macro, its well worth Pete's asking price.
