Back in the fold and my first Pentax equipment failure!

16-85mm up the spout, chronic overexposure in all modes, been driving me nuts, I'd decided it was the Camera but it doesn't happen with any of the PLM glass I have, so it's going away to be replaced by something different?
Bit disappointed but it happens...

Unusual for the 16-85mm ... I know there have been a few de-centred lenses but never heard of one giving up like that.

On another note I ordered a K-3 MKIII five minutes ago.

The camera isn't ruled out yet. Don't bin the 16-85 until you've checked whether it happens with other non-PLM lenses - if it does, it's the camera not the lens. And if you know anyone nearby who has a Pentax, ask if you can try your 16-85 on their camera.

Doesn't happen with my 70-210 which is SDM I think nor the 150-450 but no idea what that is?
DC?

It arrives Wednesday so first thing is to go out with the 150-450mm and Sigma 500mm f/4.5
Still have my DA* 16-50 f/2.8, 50-135mm & 55-300mm PLM ... wish I hadn't sold the 20-40mm though.

Since the problem is over-exposure, it's not likely to be related to the type of focus motor (PLM, DC, SDM, screw-drive). Does the aperture lever move across its full range and can you see it opening/closing the aperture? On the US forum, some people have reported screws or springs coming adrift and stopping the aperture from working.

Gone back from whence it came now, if it don't work I don't hang onto it, I now have a dilemma, do I buy a 16-50 PLM which kind of ties me to APSC, or Marantha's K1 and his 28-105???

K3 MkIII is a world away from anything that has come before, loving it so far!

I'm guessing that you'll be using it at an airshow or two Mike?

Would be interested to hear what you think once used on aircraft. Could be exactly what we've been looking for this past decade.

Sorry to hear about your 16-85 Jules...keep considering this lens but it does seem to have its share of problems and just a shame its not a bit faster at the long end.
