Asahi Pentax Spotmatic II - Charity Auction - Your Support Welcomed
Some background: He and I exchanged PMs after his insights on this camera. He was the one who came up with the information that he could make this saleable, so any kudos for making this project 'run' should be directed at him.
As for the charity, we agreed that it should be for breast cancer. I have a personal reason for that which David understands. He is a good hand, and I thank him for all that he has done. I'll be interested to see how this goes.
Kind Regards
David
I am beyond pleased.
I've attached a delightful image that I will also keep and smile every time I look at it.
Brilliant job, David.
I received a lovely hand-made card from Kevin's wife, thanking me for what I did in fixing up and selling the Spotmatic for charity and also a very heartfelt handwritten letter from Kevin himself. It's great to know that there are still a lot of people with manners and morals and principles in today's world that can sometimes feel a little harsh and cold. It's personal touches like this that make all the difference.
Kind Regards
David

Here's a bit of a different post that I hope you will be able to get behind and help us with. I have just put up for ebay auction an Asahi Pentax Spotmatic II 35mm film SLR in excellent shape and in full working order. That's not so unusual, but the difference is that this camera was very kindly donated by one of our own members (Urbanmeister) and all the proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Aid charity. Kevin sent the camera to me so that I could prepare it for sale, which involved general cleaning, new mirror bumper, new rear door light seals and disassembly / cleaning of the front lens element group as one of the elements had the start of light fungus growth (this was successfully removed with no damage having been done).
The camera has been tested (without film) and all is operating as it should be, all operational elements have been checked and found OK. The camera is actually in superb condition for its age and shows very few signs of usage or deterioration.
The lens is unusual, it's a Soligor 28mm f/2.0 C/D P, which means it was a top of the line lens for this brand and was made by Tokina. It's all metal and very smooth in operation, the glass is now clean / clear and all moving parts are operating correctly. The lens has been tested on my K-1 and images are crisp and clear. It has two advantages over many other 28mm lenses, in that it's a f2.0 maximum aperture and it focuses very close, to around 25cms. I've never come across one of these before.
The ebay listing is linked here: link. Bearing in mind it's for charity and it's a nice camera, we would be really happy if anyone would consider supporting the sale by bidding on it. There's no reserve and it has a 99p starting price.
Thank you in advance for anyone who bids and thank you to Urbanmeister for the kind donation of this lovely camera and lens.
Kind Regards
David
