I feel like im the only guy going out with the camera and getting involved with the daily happenings of people and there actions on the street.

Anyone here do that or dabble in street portraiture. Im from Norhtern Ireland and I know of absolutely no one doing it. Would be nice to hear from others!

Yes, sometimes, depending on time and mood.

Also, don't forget paulyrichard, who specialises in this.

Alistair, I did a project of 50 portraits of people in 50 days a month or two ago. It was challenging walking up to complete strangers and asking them if I could take their portrait, but a very enjoyable challenge, I even had a few people buy prints from me, despite offering them a digital image for free. I intend to go back to this project later in the spring when the weather is a bit warmer.

I think with photography you just have to go with your passion and instinct, I think sometimes being the only person doing things can be a good thing and it can inspire others to pick up their cameras and have a go. If you search the internet, there are numerous people doing what you do, although often they are abroad, but you can make contact, share stories and ideas.

Just enjoy what you do and photograph what you see and want to capture.

I must admit I do love this type of photography and would love to try it for myself, but I don't think I have the required equipment, I.e. The nerve or b*#ls.

But I have been some what motivated by the pictures I have seen this last few weeks on here, so with a big deep breath, I think I am going to give it a try this weekend.

Just ask, smile and don't look creepy! A good place to start might be where there are street artists and performers. you can talk to them and feel more justified in asking for an image. Things will then unfold into a more relaxed approach generally.
Best regards, John

Cambridge looks very interesting people wise, must give that a try this year. Talking of candid, here is one of someone people might recognise? Taken in London last September near Guys Hospital.

It's a great place for street stuff. There's a huge diverse pot pourri of characters front the disadvantage and those who've lost their way in life to intellectual giants and those born with silver spoons.

Highly recommended.

And of course the university architecture is great too.

I must try and get back their myself at some point.

I think you will be surprised how accommodating people will be if you ask them if you can take their portrait.
