Terribly misguided Policing, certainly makes you wonder what Britain is turning into.

Thats the most shocking of any of these that I have seen, perhaps SRS could hand us out ASBOs.

I cant help thinking that if he had given his name at the start nothing would have happened.

... and I really, really don't see why any 'tog should give a name. Besides, would it have to be real?

I would imagine that the officers concerned were given a talking to as the police around that time were making noise about photography not being a crime etc. and these two clots clearly thought taking photographs was 'anti social'. To be fair the two guys could have been being a damned nuisance and someone drew the attention of the first officer to this but I bet they weren't.

Bret - the cops would run the name through the computer to validate it a little. False names and date of birth are a mug's game as it can be too easily checked.

This sort of thing is the reason I carry one of these, THB I've never been asked to show it.

Have you noticed in the majority of these cases its always a PCSO who instigates the problem, they dont understand the law and they wont back down when their ignorance and our rights are pointed out to them, its high time these people were given better training or we may as well just put vigilantes on the streets.

I thought one of the main reasons for PCSOs was to bridge a gap between the community and the police, yet all they seem to be doing is building a very large wall

Simply disgusting. It makes my blood boil when I see footage like this - policemen and women who are clearly too stupid to be in that profession.

To pick up on Mike's point, don't you think that is very concerning that photography is now appears to be labelled as 'anti social' by law enforcers.

I think this clip is symptomatic of a trend in the UK that is really very disturbing on a number of levels.

I'll second that.

There does seem to be a slow slide into something which is hard to point to, but definitely an erosion of liberty.
Part of me wonders if the politicians responsible for the pooly written laws which allow for this even realise the situation they have created.
Of course, another part of me is frightened that they realise exactly what they are creating.
Getting there! Thanks to you guys

Does anyone think that all of this could have been avoided if the photographer had voluntarily given his details, even though he didn't have to?

Our class challenge this week was set by one of the students - night time photos in the City Centre !!

This is the girl who is using a P&S camera for a lot of her work [ gets good photos too ]

Now she will be OK using a P&S - not as obvious - but the thought of taking a DSLR camera out late at night does astound me to do this sort of work. Even our Tutor looked a bit shocked and promptly added to it saying that no-one was to be on their own for this and they were to take great care . He then produced 2 alternative challenges .

The scenario of someone standing in the City Centre , late at night taking photos of people is truly mind boggling . It's inviting the police to have a discussion with you - and I can imagine the sort of outcome
