All the pictures in Yours Photos forum are cut off

I wonder if someone could explain why it is that the left hand edge of all photos posted in Your Photos forum are cut off by the advertising. I can see most of the image, but it's irritating. Is it me, my computer or a general thing?

Thanks in anticiation,

Andrew

They aren't if your browser is reading the forum correctly. I would try another bowser and compare.

They look fine to me in IE7, IE8 and Firefox.

A problem can occur if a file is linked to that is larger than 800 pixels wide.

Left hand edge?

There is no advertising on the left ... it is on the right. It sounds as though something may be amiss at your end.

John,

How, then do I change the browser? (Forgive my ignorance.)

Polchraine,
Sorry, I meant right. Don't know my right from my... nor my elbow from my...

You can use any browser, for example, you might decide to download Firefox. When you do this you will have an option of selecting it as your default browser or not. You can also change that later as well if you change your mind.

There are other browsers such as Safari.

The link for Firefox will be at www.mozilla.com

If you're using Internet Explorer, that might happen, as on-the-fly resizing has problems. Try a real browser, like Firefox or Opera.

Many thanks for your input, advice and support folks. The difference is startling. Don't know what I put up with it for so long. I down loaded Internet Explorer 8 but now Bret has said it's not a real browser I may change it later!

Please tell. What were you using?

I would also recommend going to Firefox - I find it a lot better than IE and it has some useful plug-ins available including a good English English spell checker, Ghostery (to find and block annoying little trackers on the web) and many others

I've no idea what I was using. (Can you believe anyone could be so ignorant?) John suggested several browsers, including Firefox which I looked at but it seemed a bit alternative and jazzy (do people still say that?) so I opted for IE8. It seems faster, zips between pages. Can this be so? The main thing is, I get to see all of the photos (including the right hand edge)

The strange thing is, the comments are stretched further across the page so I've had to reduce the size to 85% so the typeface is a bit small! (Nothing's perfect except perhaps Demi Moore!)

I may pluckup courage to try Firefox but my lap-top is very old and the C drive has only a little space left, so I'm loth to stick too much on!

Thank you for your kind interest.

Andrew

IE8 is also pretty good at sticking to standards, 6 was ... er, from the "Microsoft define standards so ner!" era. IE8 really is faster, it's OK.

FF is sort-of alternative, but it's very functional and has lots of add-ons to make life easier.

Work essentially recommends not using IE at all, but the even more important thing is to keep software up-to date.

As mentioned in another thread, with IE8 there is a Compatibility button next to the address field. Try clicking it and observe the difference.

Problem with Firefox I find is that you need the add-ons and those plug-ins to really make something from it Opera is a better one package solution but isn't so customizable as Firefox.

Indeed IE8 is certainly better then the previous version but still it has some problems with some codes. For example here on the forum it has problems whit the image resizing codes

It's only 10mb that a browser so no worries about that and most likely your surfing on the web will be faster and snappier.

Why isn't that set on as a standard?

Terje,

I tried the button as you suggested: it certainly makes a difference, cycling between a perfect view of the pictures in Your Photos and the extreme right end of the comments cut off or perfect comments and sliced-off pictures. I have to make a choice, but at least it's better than I had before.

Thanks for your help.
