Advice wanted on WB settings for KS-2

Anyone have anything to say about WB setting they prefer, and why, on KS-2? Note that I shoot exclusively RAW DNGs.

I also shoot RAW DNG and I've always used AWB on any camera that I've used.

Each new camera comes with advancements in metering and white balance, but I've never had an issue with either on any modern Pentax.

I leave on AWB most of the time, but will consider fixing it if it's an event with a lot of photos, or where I'm using more than one camera and want them to be similar. Or where the lighting is obviously difficult,

e.g. Indoors but where the camera has some daylight shining on it by a window for example.

I have mine on auto but frequently change it based on ambient light. Yes you can do it in post but I find that getting a proper exposure, inclusive of as accurate color temperature as possible makes things much more easier in post. Especially when taking a lot of photographs. Sometimes you just don't recall the light and may find yourself struggling. At least I would. It's not really much of an effort to scroll through the settings when shooting and try to get it accurate to start with. Noone can help you here, but yourself

Thank you all for your inputs. What was on my mind in asking the question, was for opinions on whether there is ever any real difference between AWB (which I normally use) and Multi-AWB. I hear the multi setting is preferred by many users of cameras different from KS-2 --- such as K3.

I've successfully used the Ricoh (from the GR?) multi setting (oddly not the default) over the standard Pentax one from earlier models on K3 and now k3II. I've found it superior especially dealing with excess red in night time low light, rooms and street views.

I use AWB when the lighting is mixed, but most of the time use a preset. I want the colour to be as I see it, not "corrected" by the camera. So the usual setting is Daylight. If I want a warmer result I use Cloudy and if in deep shadow that's tending to go purple then I use Shade.

This is similar to what I did with film, using Daylight film but adding an 81A (Cloudy) filter if I wanted a warmer effect.

I concur with John's comment. If I am taking a number of different shots of the same scene (or more accurately the same lighting conditions), I want the WB to be consistent across all images. This means I invariably use Daylight.

I exclusively shoot RAW, so using a different WB for a set of images during PP is very easy should I wish to.

Going back to the OP question. 'Multi Auto White Balance optimizes white balance for each area' Pentax claim. My view is it is dynamic and works well at doing this.

My only surprise is that it still remains a pull down option and not a default.

It's not a preset of Pentax origin Bill, coming as it does from the Ricoh line of digital cameras, so maybe it was thought it would upset Pentax Users to have it as the default option?

The daft little manual they give us tells you nothing. I knew from an early review of the K3 of this Ricoh setting that had been added in under the usual AWB. The parent web site has the quote I used not the handbook. http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/products/k-3-2/feature/06.html refers.

How does it know? Well, knowing in this case is a lot easier than, say, how the thermos knows whether to keep its contents hot or cold. As far as I know, a thermos doesn't even have electric circuitry. LOL.
