Advice Required - Sigma 120-400mm f4.5-5.6 DG APO OS HSM Lens

I’m probably shooting myself in the foot here, but I would like some advice please.

I’m hoping to sell my Sigma 120-400mm f4.5-5.6 DG APO OS HSM Lens in Pentax K Mount.

The problem I have is that I really don’t know how much I can expect to sell it for? It is complete with case and is in as new condition and had very little use. Unfortunately it is no longer available so I don’t have a shop price to base it on.

Any advice will be most appreciated. Thank you.

I would look at eBay completed sale prices and maybe any second hand shop stock. Seems a fairly rare lens so may be difficult to price.

To add to smc's comment, when you search make sure you use the full description of the lens rather than just Sigma 120-400. K-mount is already rare but judging by your model designation it sounds like a 'later' model, I don't think original ones had 'OS' (no point on a Pentax) or 'HSM'.

Thanks both. I had given a quick search on Ebay with little success. Those I saw were mainly from mainland Europe or Japan and some looked a little dubious to be honest.

I've had good success with fleabay purchases from Japan, from the transactions I've had, they probably understate the condition a little, they are very keen ensure the purchaser is happy with the transaction. I have always purchased boxed and excellent or above in terms of condition.

With the Uk leaving the EU, you may have to pay VAT on the import as well as customs and handling charges, budget for +30% minimum

I always wanted a good copy of this lens and would have bought it a month ago if I could have obtained it for £275-£300. Unfortunately i've spent up now having committed to a Samyang 135 which apparently is a special order...should arrive next month!

This lens was always cheaper than the 150-500 of which there are more copies being sold...might be useful to see what those are going for and then price yours 10-15% below.

My son bought a 150-500 off a forum member about 2-2.5 years ago for £370 i think...vgc with case.

Ultimately as with any used item ...it's worth what someone is prepared to pay and you are prepared to accept.

Good luck with sale anyway.

As a guide I always thought around £300 for the 120-400mm, £400 for the 150-500mm and £500 for the 50-500mm (these were all the newest OS versions).

Is yours the flock finish or the shiny plastic?

Hello
I would say it's a matt black finish, definitely not shiny.

CEX have two in stock. Although they are not very clear on item condition.

As the OP selling his lens, customs and handling charges shouldn't trouble him apart from completing a declaration form.

Pretty good price from CEX considering they give a long warranty (2 years I believe)

CEX do have some good prices, but be prepared to return lenses!

In the past I have bought the odd item from them, but I suspect the inexperience of the staff taking items in (Photographic specifically) means the item can be quite different to the description. I bought a Sigma 300/2.8 in Pentax fit that turned out to be Nikon fit, a 50mm f1.2 A series that turned out to be a 50mm f2.0 M series, and a couple of other items that were faulty On several occasions I have suggested they put a photo of the actual item they are selling to avoid confusion but they have ignored this and still use a variety of "stock" photos (some accurate, some not). Having said that they have never quibbled about returns and the staff in store have always been friendly and positive.

Looked through the shop window today, it was my lens and yes I can recommend it.
