Hi
I'am about to buy my first Dslr, having used film slr's previously.
I have narrowed my choices down to a K200 or a Nikon d60.
A couple of questions, are the exsisting K200 users who shoot in Jpeg format happy with the resulting detail withing the pictures, also the quality of the 18-55 mark 2 lens, what it like?regards gtw

the k200 it a great camera alot better made than the nikon, also its weather sealed , nikon is not, i use jpegs alot ith the k200 and k20 and am very pleased with the results look through my portfolio pics, and the 18-55mm mark 2 lens is very good and probably the best kit lens you can get, you wont go wrong with the k200, have ou felt the d60 and the k200d,

Thanks for this, I have struggled to find a local shop that has both in stock to do a direct comparison with where I live in Cleveland.
Cheers for the advice

A couple of things to consider when buying, the cost of lenses and you will want them, the Nikon only uses motor driven lenses so that restricts, also you will require image stabilization lenses (Nikon VR) very expensive, if money no object fine. But if like most of us on a budget the Pentax is buy far the better option the image quality on the Pentax is brilliant.
That is just to name just a few items.
Ps. I had Nikon before I saw the light. and my pocket was getting empty.

and don't forget all that older glass that works on the K200d, every, and I mean every, K-mount lens will fit and work to some degree. That gives a scope that the Nikon doesn't.

Hi Graham,
welcome to the forum. I can't comment on the K200D but being a Pentax I'm sure it's a great camera

Hi Graham, and welcome!

I can vote for the K200D and the Mk II kit lens. Very pleased with the performance.

One important advantage for the K200D: The Shake Reduction is built-in and works on any lens you put on the camera. As far as I know, both Canon and Nikon have shake reduction built into the lenses, which makes them more expensive.
Best regards
Terry
