Not sure if it proves anything but I bought mine in either March or April this year and mine say 03/03/2008. Of more concern to me is that for the picture I chose - being one of the last I have taken on the camera it gives a shutter count of 2693 but the image number is 0028 having just gone over 10,000 images

Manufacture Date 2008-06-04 with the camera bought 10th Jan 2009. Hope it helps.

My guess is it's batch date which relates (in some way) to the serial number. Allows Pentax to double check warranties, grey imports etc.

PentaxBabe mine is the same the shutter count is about 600 more than I have taken.

I bought mine 2 months ago and the date is 2008-02-24. As far as the shutter count is concerned, I checked mine after a couple of shots and it was 5008.

so what conclusions do we draw? If the manufactured date is correct most K20Ds have sat on a shelf somewhere for 6-9 months before being sold?
I don't understand the shutter count. John941, are you saying you only took two shots from new and already it showed up as 5008? Are they not set to zero at 'birth' then?!

The date might come from when the chip or computer in the camera was manufactured, when I used to build computers the motherboard could be up to a year old but the computer was brand new when I built it.

Sorry about that typo it should have been 508 shutter count which I believe is due to pentax testing at the factory.

I've just got mine new today and on Photome the manufacturers date is 01/01/08, I've taken 37 pics but the shutter count is 275.

To be honest I'd be very disappointed if they didn't test them thoroughly.

I would have thought they would zero the clock after testing.
A couple of hundred shots isn't going to hurt really, they may be from "test shots" at the dealer. I know when I've tried bodies at dealers I have always (after asking) released the shutter a few times. These bodies would be sold "as new" I'm sure so that may explain it.

The reason for this is I have a K20 purchased May this year and photome reports the manufacture date as 24/02/2008 which seams odd to me
