This Lens keeps on screaming at me!
Thinking of parting with my 200mm F2.8 DA* and getting this one zoom instead. How does it perform? I hear it's terribly good. Has anyone tried it with the 1.7 AFA rear Adaptor?
Looking at this one and eventually the DA* 300 To round out my Kit...
Cheers Jules...

It performs much better (AF wise)on the K-7/K-5 than it did the K10D/K20D.

It's a superb lens and I love using it, the thing just screams quality to me every time I put it on the camera. Not tried the 1.7x on it as I will normally carry something longer at the same time.

I will however no doubt sell it (along with the Sigma 100-300mm f4 and Bigma) once the new Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 is released in Pentax mount.

Jules - find it a perfect foil for the DA*16-50 which is the lens that sits on my K7 most of the time.

It's a lovely lens - a definite must have.

60-250 is a great lens, almost permanently attached to one of my bodies.

Jules - I suffer from advanced LBS - but when you travel abroad, you have to select the best range of lenses you can get away with - so my current travelling set normally comprises the DA*16-50 & 60-250, DA10-17 & 12-24, FA24-90 and Sigma 135-400 with the K7 and an MZ-S packed in a Lowepro Slingshot 200 with external LCs attached (which detach and fix to my waist if their is any hint of it being weighed at the check in ).

OK Mike - I wasn't being totally honest about my travel bag - that was the Egypt version - for the Greek island annual trip, add DA F 100 & FA31 & 43 Ltds .

If I sacrifice some more cloths this year, then the DA*300 gets to go - been trying to get a decent shot of a Scop's Owl that lives around the road down to Ftginia. B***** thing sees a longish lens on a camera, works out the range of it and fly's off just in time to sit on an inaccessible rock outcrop well out of range and has a good laugh at me . That's if it can be bothered to show up .

I take it that the AF of the 60-250 can keep up with the AF demands of the K-5?

I only ask, as I was at a bird of prey shoot today and in my bag was, and I quote 50-135mm Sigma 55-200mm F4-5.6 and Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6

The 50-135 was great for still shots, but not long enough for the birds in flight.
The 70-300mm is not talking properly to any of my bodies. Pain the in posterior to be honest. Looks like it is a lens for the bin

So, I had one option and that was the 55-200mm. Very light but the K-5 overwhelms it. At times it was - press shutter and lens goes "oh yes shutter pressed I had better focus......." you can actually feel the lens adjust the AF AFTER the shutter pressed. And as for keeping up with the 7 FPS of the K-5 - it was FAR too slow.

So, can the 60-250 keep up with the K-5? How fast is the AF? is it faster than the 50-135? Does it compare favourably to those of the "others"?
The other option is the Sigma 70-200 F2.8 HSM. How good is this one?

Tried a 60-250 recently and it's faster than the 50-135 about on a par with the 300mm I've just bought, can't be more subjective than that really though I'm afraid...

I find mine a very sharp and capable lens. The AF is positive and fast - what I like particularly is that the lens performs so well wide open that the only reason to stop down is for increased depth of field.
