I was so surprised there is no discussion on this, or everyone has been busy on getting used to your K-5. Someone caught some info on the French Pentax website. it showed there is a new DSLR model being introduced, likely to be in Oct. the info has eventually been removed, but there are some screenshot to prove it.

Saw that last week.

No one is sure what it is so didn't seem much point mentioning it.

yep saw that too... it is just a given that there is products in the pipelines.... what would be news is if there was some kind of leaked or rumoured details for us to speculate on....

most likely this new camera will be an update to the k5 or kr..... if it is a d-slr as opposed to a whole new model...

what would make me happy is a new k-5 based evil class cam to be honest...
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Probably the expected Kr replacement (with 16mp K5 sensor, yippee!)

I would like a K5 L

Lite version, no gizmos, no ibuit in photoshop, just a RAW button and the usual dials, (and a few hundred off the K5 price obviously)

I was busy scheming the purchase of a K-5 ...
long and slightly fraught process... Hearing about its replacement doesn't necessarily help

I like this line of reasoning
Can we have a split prism viewfinder option too please ?

According to a friend that I would qualify as reliable, don't expect a new DSLR.

may be a K-5 super, with improved focusing system and HD video capability.

Any new camera released in the next few months will have been
in development for some time using exactly the same QA procedures
as the K-5

Talk about seeing the glass half empty! The Kr didn't seem to suffer that badly from QC issues, the K5 thing was hopefully a blip.

I think the Kr was just an update of the Kx. It was also
a simpler camera.

To be honest I'm so pleased with the K5 I'm not remotely interested in future models for at least 2/3 years - just can't see what I need from a newer model now

i think the main reason for updating K-5 is to change the image of poor QA. Pentax has not always been too bad in QA. K-5 is probably packed with too much new revolutions and there was no enough time for testing. particularly, some issues is related to the Sony sensor. back to the K10 era, there were also some shame, but soon after, the proceeder K20d has become one of most reliable DSLR in Pentax history.

I pointed out the Pentax France hints before, but sorry, but it is still a rumour.

Until Pentax/Ricoh make an official announcement it remains a rumour.

Whatever it is, if anything, I shan't be buying. The K-5 will almost certainly be my last DSLR.
