Well....I bought an MZ-60 a fews back for £20 - works fantastically well with my lenses, especially the DA*50-135. I use it in AV priority mode, and feel quite at home when using it. It certainly employs some of the modern features we have in our DSLR's.

Checkout a used Pentax MZ-6, usually under £50.00. It does wireless P-TTL flash, and you can s et the aperture on the body for lenses having no aperture ring. Even the 'flagship' MZ-S can't do that. If it could, I wouldn't have sold mine and boght an MZ-6 to replace it for £38.00.
Oh, and the MZ-6 can use pre-A series lenses, unlike the MZ-60.

i to0o am on the lookout for a film body but an old pentax one. is the mz-6 the best one? i know it depends what i mean by best. i want something that is similar to the k10d i.e.
* use the same lenses like ones i have listed below
* can be uses fully automatic (i can't do manual )
* is reasonably cheap i.e. less than £50 for body only

Yes - with the exception that you may get some vignetting with lenses having an APS-C image circle.

Yes, more or less. You may have to be patient. Mine cost £38.00 and looks virtually unused.
There are other bodies to consider like the MZ-7, MZ-5, & MZ-5N. I think only the MZ-6 can use the wireless and P-TTL capabilities of the AF360/540FGZ flashes and some other third party flashes (Metz & Sigma).
If you want a really small camera, look at the *ist film body, but it might be more than £50.00 and it has a 'crippled' K mount preventing full use of older lenses prior to the SMCP-A series.

OK, I know the world's moving on, but wouldn't it be nice if we could have a new film camera but with all the updates in technology that the digitals use like more advanced AF etc. Don't suppose anyone knows whether Pentax have got anything in the pipeline? Alternatively, if we show there's enough demand perhaps wishes do come true?!

I think that you will have to move with the times, and go in for Digital SLR, like most of us have!
Coupled with the fact that repairs to 35mm SLR's, cost more than the camera is worth,(like my MZ7 with a deceased shutter), and that slowly 35mm film will cease to be available, also the developing costs are likely to go through the roof as it is no longer a common medium for photography.
kind regards,
Peter.

In a world where you can still get 120 film and if you really know where to look 620, 116, 127 and most other sizes, film will still be around, but eventually at a huge cost.
I was going to say "sadly film is probably not the way to go", but I'm not sure I'm that sad about it....digital ticks all the boxes now, for me anyway.

Buy a used film body for peanuts (especially an all mechanical body) and enjoy. It should last well into the next 3 or 4 generations of DSLRs.

I agree somewhat with that John, but...
... with film you HAVE to get it right, you only get 36 shots and it makes you think more before you shoot.
There's still a place for film, especially in the 'student' area where technique are polished to perfection(I wish!)

I have a mint condition MZ-6 I have been contemplating selling, I purchased it off a lady who was planning on getting into SLR photography but she never got hooked.
She only ran 2 films through it and I have put another 2 through it. It has the Data back and comes with its user manual, body cap and hotshoe cover. (no original box) Looks brand new
Unfortunately I am in Aust and the cheapest I can post it is 9quid.
Let me know if you are interested and we can talk price. I can post some pics if you wish

thanks Mannesty. i know little about these film bodies but i feel they will challenge me more than the digital especially as i want to understand exposure fully. it is too easy to press the green button on the k10 or take a few shots to get the right exposure. even though i want an auto body i will only get one chance to fire the trigger

You will learn about exposure and photography in general much faster using a DSLR and at a much lower cost.
You say you "can't do manual" and "can it be used fully automatic" . . . so how exactly are you going to learn about exposure?
Stick with the DSLR, your learning curve will be much steeper with some help from this forum.
