I thought it was not a good idea to fit a polarising filter to an ultra wide due to the banding it can cause.

Yes I remember falling for that one years ago - but decided to try it anyway.
The only time my CPL is off my 10-20 is if I am using stacked ND grads - 10-20+cpl is a match made in heaven.

Took this with my Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 without a CPL, I was impressed with the rendition of the blue sky without the CPL. I don't know if it would be better with one attached.
