55-300mm barrel wobble

Hi all,

Having just bought a second hand 55-300mm DA I was somewhat perturbed to find it has barrel wobble, more so when extended and more than any other lens I've owned.
I dont think it affects IQ but there is movement none the less, anyone else come across this situation?

Cheers.

How much wobble? My 55-300 has some but it's far too minimal to concern me. I'd say there is less than a millimetre (if that) of travel at the far end of the barrel when fully extended. Two or three millimetres and I might be concerned (but I'm no expert).

I'd say my 55-300 moves about 1mm either side of centre. but it works fine. PS that's at the 300mm extension

I'd say its about 1-2mm at most, I guess its just been well used, glass seems ok though.

Just checked mine, and there is very slight wobble. It does'nt affect the IQ though. Seems it is part of the design. I would'nt worry.

I can confirm somewhere 1mm wobble when fully extended. Have taken a lot of pictures with it, from 55 to 300 - all clear. I should be normal.

Mine has a tiny amount of movement, but nothing to worry about. The 55-300 is a magical lens, it never seems to disappoint when I use it.

yes David, I'm sure that all copies will have it and it's pretty normal. Image quality wise this lens continues to surprise me every time I use it. Pictures on every focal length are just so good I'm starting to compare it to pro level lenses that are million times pricier.
