I recently compared the k-30 to the k-5 and the k-30 is faster at af. The only problem is with long lenses the k-30 is very unbalanced, particularly if you are used to the k10d with a grip attached

I used the 55-300 with the K-30 and found that the auto focus was a lot faster than my K-r but never noticed it being unbalanced in any way. May be I missed some thing.

Has anyone any experience of the Pentax 55-300 and focusing on a K30 and a K10D.
Is there a noticeable difference between the two in terms of AF speed.
Used the lens in the summer but found it struggled to focus at airshows albeit the light etc was not great so used manual focus but hit rate then suffered. This was my first airshow so am sure my technique was not the best but was still disappointed with the no of keepers I had.
Any advice appreciated.
