I was giving you a straight response to what you said Chris, I understood that was what you wanted? I'm not sure how that is stomping on you, or how it was any different from your straight opinion as stated?

You seem to have taken it the wrong way.
Best regards, John

Fair enough. I took your suggestion that I was being overly critical as implying I shouldn't have posted. If that's not what you meant, apols.

I guess I'm a bit sensitised...

But I was making a serious point. Suppose those distracting elements (which you surely don't deny?) were absent?

What words would you use then, if impeccable, excellent and superb were all taken?

Please not 'amazeballs'...

No problem, I'll start a new thread rather than divert senn's, as there's a point I'd like to make that you might like to take up as well.
Best regards, John

Great shots!
My DA*300 is the most used lens I own. On it's own or with the 1.4x and 1.7x TC's it's a great wildlife lens. Once the Dragonflies and Butterflies appear in numbers, I then use it manual focus with a 36mm extension tube (old Jessops model with contacts) - nice working distance with higher magnification and the image quality is first class! Who needs the Sigma 150mm or 180mm Macros!

Maybe not impeccable. But they are fabulous.

Hope you aren't put off as I'm looking forward to seeing more of your shots in "Your Photos"

I can't agree really Chris. Wildlife photography sometimes needs minor flaws in my opinion, almost to authenticate it. Totally different from macro shots in a studio. I'm not one for cutting away offending leaves or grass blades although of course you try your best to get the best position. These things tend to fly off within a few seconds!

I also use the Jessops auto extension tubes for closer focusing distance with the DA*300. 1.4TC on order. I doubt I've ever matched these for quality though.

some very nice shots indeed. The purple splodge does detract a little in the first one. The last one is my favourite.

I shall try to avoid the use of superlatives when I say how much I enjoyed this delightful set of images. I'm not a macro photographer, or even a pixel peeper, so I'm going risk saying I find them excellent.
I like the purple splodge Chris refers to in #1, its obviously an OOF flower and I like it and would have left it in had I been able to produce a picture anywhere near as good as this.

I've had a go with macro and know how hard it is to do well. These are wonderfully good. Very sharp and colourful. I know there are some out of focus anomalies but they're hard to remove after the fact and difficult to spot when you're taking the shot. I spent ages plucking bits of grass away when I took those few MX-1 close-ups I posted the other day and the shots were still pretty ordinary compared to these.

I don't want to upset anyone by being gushing and Chris is right, unalloyed praise is non-constructive and boring, but I'd have been very proud to have taken these, Nuri.
Best wishes,

Andrew

Purple splodge?

That is the toxic breath from the Dragonfly! Chemical warfare that kills anything in the cloud - why else would they be called DRAGONflies?

I would have been very proud to have taken any of these images and to my eye, #4 is the best. Going by the title of the thread I thought the photographer was showing the close-up capability of this lens, in skilled hands, and think the images do this.

The sooner butterflies etc., learn to only land in uncluttered ideal photographic positions the happier everyone will be

I like the well controlled exposures, nice suble contrast and deep tones. There is good detail, especially on the butterfly wings.
