Hi, I am trying some portraits with a 50 and your photo is very nice and interesting.
I like - the portrait as a whole, the boys skin tone, his natural expression, the lighting from the side/rear and keeping the detail in what could be dark shadow, the background matches your sons hair colour and what he is wearing very nicely.
Did you crop?

It was our club open competition this week and I finally got a 10, unfortunately I can't call it a win as there was another 10 but I think the number of winks from the other members told me everything I needed to know.
Here is the photo, it is of my son George photographed with a K30 and an M series 50mm at about f4.
