Weekly #878 - The Only Way to Travel Competition

Title Weekly #878 - The Only Way to Travel
Judge johnriley
Closing Date 28/07/2024
Description
This could mean an image of a car, bus, plane , penny farthing or any other mode of travel. Or it could mean a guide book and armchair travelling. Or anything in between or maybe something else entirely that I haven't thought of but which fits the challenge. I'll look forward to seeing what turns up!

The Only Way To Travel was inspired by us going on holiday last week, travelling around Durham and based in Mickleton, Barnard Castle. So, let's see what interpretations are on offer...

Vintage Lorry by MHOL190246 gets us off to a great start. I like the incongruous setting for such a lorry, which I could believe is next to some remote Scottish loch. Placing the lorry over to the left has kept all the shadow in, another plus point.

Travel the Superman way by Lubbyman - I guess even Superman needs to take it easy sometimes, or perhaps he's let himself slip a bit? Either way, a nice bit of humour.

Not by choice but you really do get looked after by davidwozhere - this reminds me of the links between scenes in The Man From UNCLE (the TV series) and it is very eye-catching. There's also a serious message that is worth putting across. The sense of action and urgency is excellent.

Putting the power down by Nigelk - Certainly it is appropriate, but I can't help but think not particularly comfortable. Shaken but not stirred.

The 97 by Simonmac - A well thought out shot and a fair comment really on the benefits of bus travel. It's a long time since I travelled on buses, from an era when it was often quicker to walk than wait for unreliable buses to turn up. The use of monochrome works well.

Piggyback is best by noelcmn - The eyes of the youngster are crisp, which is an essential feature of any portrait, but I think I would have preferred to see the whole of the adult's head. The shot also seems over-exposed, which has rendered the greens very light. However, the idea is great and perhaps a bit more Photoshop adjustment would be beneficial?

Fast Fine Dining by RayW - I could be convinced, having experienced the delights of the vintage trips from locally to Edinburgh, complete with the 4 course dinner. Dining by rail can indeed be excellent. The image is well composed and exposed and it's an enticing prospect.

And there we have it, the WINNER this week being the dramatic Not by choice....by davidwozhere.

SECOND PLACE is Vintage Lorry by MHOL190246

THIRD PLACE is Travel the Superman Way by Lubbyman.

Thanks to all who entered, and over to davidwozhere!
Best regards, John

Thank you for setting the competition and for your words of wisdom John.

Well done to David and the places.

Panning, don't see it often and it works mightily well here!

All the best

Another excellent competition topic, well judged, thank you John. And a most worthy winner. One thing not mentioned by John is the colour - for me, the green of the blurred backround goes really well with the colours of the ambulance, I can't think of another colour that would work as well.

Thanks for the podium place, too. 3rd place is perfect for me - recognition, but not so much that I've got to set and judge the next competition .

That was a nice surprise! Thank you John, both for the place and for your excellent comments. Lovely lorry Michael and great to see Superman put in his place . Now I gotta think!
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass
