Broken by Nigelk, what a powerful opening self portrait image this is.
Deep blacks indeed yet contains great detail, behind the shattered pain.
Talk about an autobiographical book cover then this one has it covered and you've left enough space for the title.
Fantastic introspective photograph but I know that you were only taking advantage of the opportunity before the glazier called round and returned one, to a brighter outlook.
Corkscrew by DavidWoz, a masterful study of a mundane object
Sensationally lit, highlighting the (razor blade) ultra sharp chromatic effect but also full blacks to bright.
The double lined starburst is the spectacular . in this wonderful study.
I am not going to even guess, as to what lens was used, as it will only highlight my own inexperience.
Super accomplished technical photograph.
Lantern by Yorkie, this took a while for me. I knew it was familiar in form but I couldn't quite perceive.
Then the penny dropped and what a subtle capture that I am sure took a bit of faffing about to align and it works wonderfully.
A Gerald Scarfe (cartoonist) impression is what I now see( the frame suspending the lantern) and I love it.
The fact that it is a scanned film photograph makes it all the more impressive. That subtle texture in the background, the object that is the lantern and the shadow it casts , all combining to make a wonderful story. Top shelf.
G Man by GarethMorgan, " Now the FBI is coming round
Turning the joint, upside down"
Great use of light, the blinds, the shadows cast, the crispness of the attire that agent sports, all comes across along with the stakeout story.
Perfectly composed with great contrast. A tad sharp on the forehand holding the gun perhaps but I am being picky but the deep blacks alongside the brights make for a fantastic visual experience. A Dime novel it is not.
Jog On by Simonmac, perfectly executed timing, the highlights alongside the deep blacks are also in perfect harmony along with the joggers identity (love the shadow) being protected . The leading lines of light make for a fantastic framing and composition, in such that is possible with a street urban type scene. You stole the light.
Shadow Pattern by SueRiley, another photograph that takes its time to resonate but once viewed it shows its compositional balance and that is a lot harder to achieve than one might think.
I love the positioning of the two leading verticals creating the skyscraper effect and the birds feather gently suspending in the larger band of shadow to slow one down in the middle, very creative take.
The Paperweight and its Shadow by Noelcmn, crystal clear symmetry on display and beautifully separated creating a wonderful 3D effect.
Great execution and again fantastic liquid clarity. It is almost like the paperweight is our globe and its shadow is the two dimensional map representation. Love the abstract thinking and photograph taken. Great contrast.
Well there you have it, I tried last night but the web went down, so sorry for the delay but maybe it gave myself more time to contemplate.
Again they were a fantastic set of photographs to behold, so thank you all so much.
Everybody is absolutely highly commended, as along with being all joint runners up, I simply cannot choose
but the winning photograph is
Lantern by Yorkie.
