Weekly #756 - Inland Stormy Weather Competition

Competition Details
Closing Date: 27/02/2022

I suggest this as we have had lots of this recently. However, being the weekly competition it can be from your archives, must be a Pentax taken photo or associate.

Many thanks for your entries.
Those Falling Leaves by Perspicador taken 2020.01.26 Nice colours, but is it a branch or tree brought down by a storm or simply Autumn colours of a tree against a roof or garage? Possibly taken from a different angle would make it clearer to the viewer.

Storm Desmond by Davidtrout taken 2015.6.05. This is the type of shot I expected for the competition but is the only one of its kind, of flooding, and it is a good general record, but it doesn’t convey much of the tragedy of the situation. Possibly a closer view of the people, or flooding inside a building may have helped, as a third of the picture is of the flood water. The signs do show where it was.

Storm over Goring Gap, by Rayw taken 2016.6.25 I find this quite an exciting clear photo with good composition of an approaching storm. Sorry you got wet but I expect you have dried out by now! I have selected this for 2nd place in the competition.

Swollen Stream by Mcrtchy taken in Norway, but as there is no Exif details can’t tell whether it was taken with a Pentax and don’t know when it was taken. I do think the composition is very good and the photo does fit the competition title.

Incoming Snow Storm Northumberland by tyronet 2000 taken 2016.04.09, we have your word on the title, but no sign of snow, but the trees are certainly blowing, otherwise it is rather a calm nice photo.

Wine Girl Frozen Stiff by vic cross. Here we definitely have it snowing, but as once again there are no Exif records, so cannot tell it was taken by a Pentaxfor sure and no idea of when taken. I did establish that the Z1p mentioned in your notes is a Pentax, as on the internet there is a manual available for it! Sorry it interrupted your patio laying. The title to the photo is quite humourous and therefore a bit of fun!

Fast Water by retoor taken 2019-10-06. This is a great shot of a waterfall which only occurs in stormy weather. Every detail can be seen and it has an excitement to it. I placed this one 3rd.

Aaaaagh!!!!!!! By mhol190246 taken 2022 02 18. A very recent shot well taken showing common tile damage which often occurs after a severe storm. Commended.

Hail, rainbow and shadow of Harringworth Viaduct by Hazyj taken 2016.03.05. This I have placed first as it is a fantastic shot of the storm, well exposed with great composition.

Aftermath by jofford taken 2022.02.27. I expected more like this after the weather we were experiencing when the competition was set, so congratulations in providing such a good recent photograph. Commended.

Storm in the Horizon by noelcmn taken 2021.11.05 in Johannesburg. Very dark and gloomy exactly fitting the title of the competition. I wonder whether (suppose that should be weather), a little lightening in photoshop or similar would make this photo have more impact than it does.

Looks brighter over Will’s mother by drofmit taken 2012.05.03. Should that be Bill’s Mother’s? Very interesting photo information given to a great photograph entered in the last hour that the competition was open. Highly commended.

Interesting competition title and congratulations to the winner and podium places. Fellow competitors might like to note that in the space of 10 days my damaged roof has both been mended and commended

I feel I am owing you an explanation. The weather we were having meant that I did not feel justified in photographing bare, bleak branches and as it happened, considerable damage was done to my shed by a combination of gales and branches, which with what I had in my archives, you could not have even guessed at! So the work has been done now and I have a new shed felt in place, but there was no way I was going out in Eustace and risking my camera so the picture, along with the falling leaves was the one that got away. I am put in mind of the Blondie song and 'picture this, a day in December...' Picture it - but how?

Alas, our winner seems to have disappeared, so I'll set a new competition now, to run to the end of next week.
Best regards, John
