Weekly #731 - Just Flower(s) Competition Competition

Title Weekly #731 - Just Flower(s) Competition
Judge drofmit
Closing Date 29/08/2021
Description
As the title says.... just the flower or flowers....
For this I want to see a WHOLE flower, still on a plant.... but with no vegetation showing....
So, how can you show me that it is still attached to the plant?
This is harder than it appears, so I will allow surrounding flowers to be in the shot...
but no leaves or other vegetation can be shown.... and NO macro shots of the centers of flowers, either.....
it must be the whole flower.....
Good luck.... usual rules apply.... and have fun.

Thank you.... eleven entries....
are people getting back into photography now it is a bit easier to get out and about? I do hope so.....

I am going to try something a bit different this week... bear with me please....
so am going to write my comments on each picture.... so you will all have to go and look!
[Seriously, it is a lot easier for me, as the judge, to write the comment as I am looking at the picture!
Rather than Alt-tabbing everywhere now, because Win10's latest incarnation doesn't like people doing that!!
They want you to use their monetised apps, grrrrrr!!!
I'm heading rapidly towards five exclamation marks here!!!!]

The quality of these has made it very difficult to judge....
but the clear winner with just a single flower is:
Knapweed with guardian ant by davidwozhere
In the "coveted" second place on the podium is:
Witch Hazel by Johnwnjr
and sitting third is
Alium by JAK

And Runners Up are
Lavender by Aitch53..... and.... Onion flower by pipinmels

Comments on each picture will follow during the day!
Hopefully by lunchtime!

So, it is all yours David!!

Thanks drofmit for the competition and judging. Someone told me my pic was some kind of lily but I am not sure. Congratulations to the Podiums and runners up all good photos

Thanks for the competition Tim, the judging and third spot. Also well done to everyone for some very decent flower shots.

Thanks for the first place Tim. As you said, the standard was very good. I recall seeing pipinmels' onion flower and being quite impressed by it and the way it stood out from the mountainous background but it has disappeared from the gallery. Wherever it has gone - nice job! And well done everyone here.

Thanks for my second place. An interesting competition as it was difficult to enter a picture without vegetation showing as was explained in the introduction. That narrowed the field down enormously. John

Yes, it vanished before I got to write a critique.... I liked it as well... different aspect and a whole mountain of OOF bokeh!

Yes.... that was a bit mean on my part, but the people who OOF'd the vegetation/backgrounds handled it well.... yes, there was obviously vegetation there, but unrecognisable....

Thanks again everyone, it was fun judging it!

I for one pretend no longer: we all KNOW do we not? - that the weekly competition has always attracted especial interest for delving into archives, or at the very least getting submissions taken without this particular competition in mind. So no, I am not necessarily taking pictures for the weekly competition, so stipulating which blades of grass appear in addition to the subject of the photo is a waste of your time and mine! Suffice it that the subject of the photo is (more) in focus than the background. I am only stating this ( - the bleeding obvious) because the urge to control appears to get the better of every one of us when we are suddenly in the driving seat of a competition. It is what it is - not something to be micro-managed or nature-controlled, but simply an expression of something which we are all at liberty to do (in this country). Please, all of us, just live and let live...

Sorry, Rodney "Perspicashus".... you are wrong..... I for one will take a picture for the weekly if the subject interests me..... and others do to....
So, you didn't like what I wrote.... basically, tough.... you didn't read.... or deliberately didn't follow the brief!
You ought to try taking pictures to fit the brief, it is fun... it is challenging doing that within the six days... try it! You might like it....
Urge to control..... mwahahahaha.... sorry, again you are wrong....
For my competitions, you need to really read the brief, think about it, and take a little longer "trawling".... then think about how to improve your picture that you have found.... by cropping, for example.... or altering the contrast..... or.... well the list is endless.... and then enter!
And please.... don't enter my competitions unless you are prepared to do that....

For those who haven't looked at all the comments, this is what I wrote for Rodney:
"Lovely Campanulas.... again, like John's witch hazel, difficult to isolate one flower.
If you had had the lens wide open the greenery would have been far less obvious....
and a very tight crop into the four flowers and the removal of that grass stem that's lying across would have really lifted this."

So, I can't see how I rattled Your cage, Rodney, but I obviously did.... and for that I am sorry.... these competitions are meant to be fun!

Dromfit. See my comments on your judging on my entry where you left your comments. You didn't follow your own brief. (SHOWING THE FLOWER IS STILL ON THE PLANT)
