Weekly #700 - My best of 2020 Competition

Title Weekly #700 - My best of 2020
Judge Noelcmn
Closing Date 17/01/2021
Description
Wishing you all a happy, joyful and prosperous 2021.
Despite that 2020 was a difficult year for all of us, creativity and skills were ever present realities for photographers even in 2020. For this weeks challenge, I'm afraid you will have to trundle through your archives and present to us what you consider your best Photo for 2020. I am making a very broad allowance here as to subject matter, whilst at the same time making it a highly subjective matter. It may not be or seem to everyone else the best, but for you it must be. Please also give the reason why you consider this to be your best- it may be a memory, a rare moment, once in a lifetime opportunity, or just a portrait of someone you love. A favored subject, or success in a new technique. Whatever!

The usual rules apply:
1. Only Pentax cameras and acceptable clones.
2.The winner is expected to set, judge and preferably offer some comments/critiques of submissions.
3. You are free to use images from your archives of 2020 and submissions must have been taken in that
year. Please ensure the EXIF data is accessible.
4. The challenge closes on Sunday 17th January 2021 at midnight BST.

Need I say it, I am so looking forward to seeing the best from a much respected bunch of Pentax Photographers. Good Luck.

Thank you all for your entries, wonderful stuff, every one of them an image to be proud off. Pardon the lateness of the judging exercise- the children at the orphanage where i (also) work started returning today, leaving me no time to give attention to duties on this Forum.

MHOL190246-Backlit Poppy- Beautiful shot, wonderful composition and Bokehlicious, Not sure what it is about red, but as many a photographer/judge will concur, its always has appeal. Super control over the highlights!

Perspicador-  J’adore Macaw-Excellent eye contact and focus here, and at ISO 1600, this has come out really well. Super details of that scratched beak. These birds have such character, and amply testified to in this shot! To me it looks like it is planning some mischief! Colors and composition spot on! Nice title.

Nigelk-Bempton Cliffs Gannet I dare say, every comment well deserved, Excellent BIF, with a wad of Bokeh to complement the one in focus. Purists may complain about “chopping the bird in half,”, imho, it works really well here, keeping the focus on the bird and its wonderful beak, and makes for a wonderful composition! BIF is always a challenge for photographers, and among some photographers, a long standing myth has been that Pentax does not do well with BIF- you’ve put that myth to rest.

Johnwnjr- Evening Poppy- A favored technique, backlit subjects, beautifully done, with elements of juxtaposition. Gotta love the pop of color here, and wonderful details. I’m tempted to count those bristles on the front bud. Well composed.

Vic Cross-60th Wedding Anniversary- A hearty CONGRATULATIONS, that’s a great testimony and message to our world. No issues with it being taken by you son, this challenge is about the Camera brand, and not about the photographer. Very nicely composed, seems to me to have a note of subdued celebrations. Just wish you had looked at the camera like Sheila, perhaps you suffer from the same malady as many a photographer-uncomfortable in front of the camera but at home behind the viewfinder.
Magical ligh
Davidwozhere-Final approach – What a lovely color of that bloom, allowing a stunning background for that bee to pop out as the focus subject. Quite agree about that sentiment about all the factors tha must coe into play- I literally have taken 1000’s of bee images, with just a few worthy keepers. You pulled it off here! Magical light on the wing!

Johnriley-Derelict Chapel in Tyldesley Cemetery -Bold monochrome is so suited to this chapel, the quiet is quite palpable in this moody, almost eerie shot. Love all those shadows in the foreground, and leading lines taking you past the building. I don’t know about anyone else, but would love to breathe in all that atmosphere in this image. Super details too!

Paulb531-Barry, my Lock Down Companion- with a pet like this you are allowed to be biased. He looks both fierce and friendly and quite the character!. Stunning composition, with some mystery as to who is his handler. Those alert ears are to die for! Super sharp with Barry showing some fine details. Well done!

PRYorshire,- Lake View- Yes, quite agree about the B/W, much more impact-full, a place to explore some! Good control of the light, and lovely reflections! Feel good photography for the times in which we live.

Retsoor-Gatekeeper- Stunning! Incredible details and spot on focus on that beautiful eye! And such wonderful russet colouration. Spot on with the all round focus too-no issues with the composition!.

1sst place goes to Barry-joining 1000's of others in relieving the abnormality of our lives.
2nd spot to Johriley, for that palpable quietude shot!
3rd spot to retsoor-Wonderfully detailed shot of the gatekeeper.

I am happy to ward HC's to all the other entries!

Over to Barry to charm us some more!

Good comp. A good selection. Just out of interest we've just had our lockdown 61st Anniversary on the 16th Jan. We can now enter the new comp. as urban decay....
CHEERS Vic.
Born again biker with lots of Pentax bits. Every day I wake up is a good day. I'm so old I don't even buy green bananas.
