Hello

Apologies for the delay, I have been quite unwell.

Thank you to the hardy souls who entered.

Seven swans a-swimming by Perspicador
Lovely shot. A magnificent sight. I especially like the swan looking directly at us. Not sure how it fits the theme however!

be better for myself by Klara
What an intriguing shot. Please forgive me, what is the object in the photograph? I have looked and looked and I am stumped. I'm probably being stupid but please do tell. Is it a vase, a bong?

Too Take More Down Time, and Simply Relax! by JudithAnn
This is wonderful and fits the theme. Both really cool dudes. They ooze tranquility and peace. I am a little uncertain about the treatment but it grows on me with each viewing.

Must have coffee by davidtrout
This is such a good shot. The clarity is great and the composition just so. My interpretation sees it fit the theme as the distance and glass see the coffee as something prohibited. Lots to see here.

Reducing my waist size by davidwozhere
The great belly maker: beer. Fits the theme and I like the suggestion of the belly/waist in the aperture of the chair. It's just a tad untidy. Good effort.

Jumping Spider by Noelcmn
Cracking shot. What a character and I want a Raynox! However, without the explanation it sadly doesn't shout out the theme.

Dry January by paulb531
Well done Paul! I should try this. A classic bottle composition that meets the remit with no explanation required. Love it. Having tried this beer in the past I may stick with tea!

In third: Must have coffee by davidtrout

Second: Too Take More Down Time, and Simply Relax! by JudithAnn

And the Winner: Dry January by paulb531

HCs to everyone else for entering.

All the best

Thanks for your efforts especially when you are unwell Simon, its much appreciated. Well done to Paul on his win and to JudithAnn for her 2nd place (that one was my favourite) and thanks for my 3rd. Pity more people didn't enter.

Well done Simon - your efforts are appreciated. A lot of people are suffering with illness. Many thanks for the win - I was a bit surprised to be honest. JudithAnn has terrific technique with the camera and processing - I loved that shot. David's shot was pretty impressive too.

As for the dry January; I had my family round and bought in several no alcoholic beers to try and the majority were awful. The non alcoholic wine went straight down the sink. Juk!! The San Miguel was the beer that run out first - so was declared the best. I am now thankfully back on the farmers Blonde.

Congrats Paul, and thanks for keeping me thirsty! Love the composition and the selective color adds nice impact. And extended to JudithAnn and Davidtrout for directing my thirst in a different direction. And thanks to Simon, hope you have a speedy recovery. Interesting challenge, one I struggled with, and eventually opted for the spider. Needed some out of the box thinking and simply not up to the task.

Well done Paul. You getting your beer from Bradfield? - And I didn't dare comment on the "vase or bong" !
The "chair aperture" spoken of in mine is in fact the hole in a beer can's ring pull and it is quite an extreme macro shot of it, which was intended to make the in-focus Stella can quite a puzzle.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Congrats to all the winners.....and thank you to our judge. Sorry you are unwell, trusting you are improving. Thank you for the win. I know that post processing can be tricky...and be liked or not liked, but this street photo called to me, to bring it more alive. I LOVED the finished photo. I am kind of glad it grew on you. I can really understand someone not liking a "grunge style". I hate loved and hated it myself.

I am really glad I received second. A bit of glory, and no work!

If you've had the current bug then you have my sympathies - it has been a really nasty one! Just keep warm and get well.
