Monthly #140 - Love Competition

Title Monthly #140 - Love
Judge Noelcmn
Closing Date 29/02/2024
Description
February is known as the Month of Love, what with Valentines Day. This Month the challenge will follow that tradition, with love in all its forms, and therefore not limited to romantic love. Brotherly love, family love, friends love, even love for animals fall within the scope of this challenge. Or perhaps your love (as with me) for Nature/Wildlife/birds/insects all qualify. And if you feel your love for your Pentax Camera and gear also qualifies, that's OK too. I look forward to your submissions.

Usual rules apply:
1. The image must be taken in the month of February- Please keep the EXIF data intact, otherwise, manually submit it.
2. Only shot with Pentax/Ricoh or acceptable clones
3. Closing date is 29 February 2023 @ Midnight
4. The winner is expected to judge and preferably offer some comments/critiques of submissions and set a new challenge for the next month.

Good luck.

Thank you all for your entries, as usual high quality stuff, which more than makes up for the low number of entries. Some thoughts:

Davidwozhere-Valentine Birthday- What a happy coincidence, an image that exudes tons of love from family and friends I presume. Nice arrangement, and balanced comp, colorful and bright, good use of the available light. Pretty sure the madam was pleased as punch, what with all those flowers and cards! Extra doses for the memory bank.

Yorkie-Memories - Another excellent comp and arrangement. Albeit that there is a tinge of sadness to the image, still a note of joy and appreciation too. Love the juxtapositioning here, old and new, B/W and color, and the very suitable blue background to enhance the subjects. I gather the memory bank is quite full. Emotive shot!

Sueriley-Stone Love – The first of a good few images that has wads of textures to them. Beautiful comp and DOF to bring out the flowers in the background to lighten the otherwise dull colors of the birds. Good for the brief-the ever present proverbial “love birds” that hounds all and sundry! If it were not for the dull color, I could have sworn those birds are alive.

Johnriley – The kiss- what a lovely sculpture, perfect for the theme, and a great story there. He seems on the shy side, despite that he probably was wooing her with those flowers in his hand. Another texture intense image, and a high CUTE factor makes me want one of those. Good comp and the bluish tones work very well. As for the bystander, besides reminding me of my own “double chin” or is it triple, also encapsulates that other proverbial reality- “All the world loves a lover”.

MikeInDevon – Lost love remembered- That’s quite the emotive shot, sure to bring a tear to any parent (or sibling and other family members) that has lost a child, especially at such a young age. Another proverbial saying comes to mind “you don’t know what it’s like to lose a child until you lose a child”. After 22 years of pastoral ministry, I’ve learned that this is more often than not quite inconsolable. Back to the image, once again some strong textures, and juxtapositioning, and the daffodils pop beautifully here. Great comp. Appreciate the direction this has taken-love is not just romantic but much wider, including the lost loves of life.

Nigelk – Doing what I love- well, I half expected to see an approaching foot somewhere, such is the air of expectation that I get from this image. And then there is an air of an adventurer, fearless. Appreciate the directions of this one too-self-love is as important as all the others. Fabulous comp and DOF, and that popping blue kayak surely dominates the whole scene, which is as it should be. GO FOR IT!

Flan-Signature Stone – Love is in the eye of the beholder, and so is appreciation of art and love messages. Another texture loaded image, with a minimalist element, and which certainly fits the brief, albeit that that is just about all there is, besides the said textures of the old bricks. But the message of love is clear, coming from that dominating red heart that pops wonderfully here. That it was done by children makes it even more special. Who needs words, or a van Gogh!

Flan gets the nod for 1st place.
Yorkie gets 2nd spot
Johnriley gets 3rd spot

Thanks all!

Over to you Flan.

Amazing pictures, and inspirational for me, because I didn't have any ideas how to tackle this topic. NigelK those cranes in the background must be Liverpool?
Looking forward to the next challenge.

Very good collection of images - especially considering the slow start. Congratulations to the Podium placements!
(Did you really have to go out with a can of paint Flan?).
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass
