Competition Details
Closing Date: 31/01/2021
Judge: Nigelk

Happy New Year.
Entries must be taken this month, January 2021
This months competition is all about contrasts. Any form of contrast is acceptable including but not exclusive to contrasts between light and dark, poor and rich, active inactive, small and large, happy and sad etc, any image that shows some form of contrast, I'm interested.
As usual Pentax cameras or accepted clones and your entry must be taken this month, January 2021.
The winner that I select will be expected to set and judge next months competition.
I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Best wishes
Nigel

Thank you all who entered this month Contrasts competition. Lovely to see a good variety of different forms of contrasts.
Without out further ado, the bit I find hard, the judging....
I set a message to Pixelshot asking for confirmation that their image was taken this month, I have received no such assurance so with the exif stripped the image can't be included.

Early one Morning By johnwnjr
Good opening image, great contrasts with the snow, the black road and sky with the slightly yellow pools of light from the street lights, lighting our way through the curving composition and you didn't have to step outside!

Aquaphilic by Perspicador
I had to look Aquaphilic up, apparently aquaphilia is a sexual attraction to water! What draws my eye in this busy composition is the the contrast between the warm colour of the low sun striking the branches and the cold blue reflection of the sky in the foreground water, complex.

Pentax Camera and Lenses by Newbiek50user
Easy to spot the contrasts here, with the black camera and lenses against the just off white surroundings. I'm also enjoying the contrasting textures of the different surfaces.

Tarmac and Snow by paulb531
Very simple (in a good way) but very strong composition, lovely sweeping curve, the crash barrier entering the image bang in the right bottom corner sweeps us into this high contrast image then our eyes move around the rest of the image, enjoying the contrasting textures, shapes and forms of the bordering trees.

Ancient and Modern by davidwozhere
What a great contrast this is! The totally different designs and different qualities of the materials. You've done a good job on the depth of field managing to keep the foreground stonework sharp enough. I think the image is bang on for the comp, my one very small reservation, I personally don't need the man in high viz jacket he's attracting a bit too much of my attention.

Two Twin Lens Cameras by andymat
Another but very different old and new contrast and my what a contrast! The black plastic box that can do such an incredible amount against the engineered made of more traditional materials and methods Rolleicord. A lovely image for which you have chosen to focus only on one of the objects, I do find myself wanting to see more detail of that beautifully made old Rolleicord, probably me being selfish.

A Flash of 'Unlight by drofmit
What a bright idea! A great play on light and dark, I think lining the reflected light in the centre of the bulb exactly the right thing to do. A good, different and interesting entry.

Sunset over Snow Fields by stephen-s
A natural contrast, lovely that warm light in the sky against the cold slightly blue hue of the snow with the odd touch of warmth being reflected here and there. Bang on for the competition, I can sit and enjoy just gazing into this calm scene, "Bleak Beauty".

Colour Contrasts by Noelcmn
A totally different cool and hot colour contrast but the texture of the bench actually complementing the structure and texture of the leaf, the water drops an added bonus. You've kept the composition simple and that's a good thing for this type of image I believe.

So who do I put on the podium and who gets top spot? Gosh it's tough

1st Place Tarmac and Snow by paulb531
2nd Place Ancient and Modern by davidwozhere
3rd Place Sunset over Snow Fields by stephen-s
Please accept Highly Commended to the other entries, a lovely interesting and varied selection.
Best wishes to you all
Nigel

Thanks Nigel for the competition and the judging. Some excellent contributions and well done to other podium places. It's a thankless task but you made an excellent job of it as always.

Regards

Paul
