Viewfinder query

Is it possible to buy something or fit something to your camera so that you can view through the viewfinder via the top of the camera?

For example how you might shoot a Rolleiflex.

yes, an angle finder. I have an old Olympus "varimagni" which rotates and has a 2.5x focus magnifier; goes straight onto the K5ii.

Ahh... no. You'll have trouble finding a viewing screen like that I'd guess, there aint that much light there. Remember it's a part-silvered mirror, a focussing screen, and multiple passes through the prism to get to your eye as-is; add another mirror or prism and another focussing screen and you can see it's a helluva lot more complex than a direct-projection screen would be...

You are correct of course. Should have figured that.

Damn

Ah well

Looks like I will have to buy a Mamiya

Sounds as though something along the lines of PK TETHER is what you're after. That would allow you to hook your camera up to a laptop/netbook (not sure if it would work with iPod/Tablet pc), ans you will be pretty-much seeing what your camera's sensor is picking up.

I have one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2013-Zigview-ZigView-SC-V100B-Digital-Viewfinder-/2009... which is a good idea spoilt by a poor quality screen (and, no I did not pay that huge price for it). It can do other things as well but I only use it to avoid getting my knees in the mud, or for holding the camera above other peoples' heads
